Islamic Meditation Course Series: The Practice of Presence in Islamic Spirituality:
These interactive lecture series courses explore the concept and practice of Islamic Meditation. Meditation is a contemplative practice and an internal state of being resulting from sincere and deepened spiritual or religious practice. In its deepest Islamic sense, meditation
points us to our original nature (fitra) or essential sense of self as spiritual presence (hudur). Meditation as a practice can heighten our sense of self-awareness and Divine Awareness
(taqwa) as they relate to religious practice and contemplative living in Islam. This course will experientially examine the role of respectful mindfulness (taqwa) and our presence of heart (hudur al-qalb) as it relates to Islam's contemplative practices and dimensions. This will be done through pointed reflections, guided meditations, and interactive discussions with take-home exercises that reinforce each module of learning. Each weekly module will build upon the foundations set by the prior module. Topics that will be addressed
and contemplatively explored include the following:
- The Role and Practice of Muraqaba (spiritual vigilance), Muhasaba (self-introspection), Fikr (contemplation), and Dhikr (invocation) as foundations of Islamic meditation and as a mode of
self-knowing. - Appreciating and Experiencing the Spiritual, Psychological, and Physical Benefits of Spiritual Retreat as a Prophetic Practice.
- Contemplatively Living the Five Pillars of Religion in our everyday life.
- Embodying Essential Prophetic Virtues in our personal and social living with the help of Meditation.
Each module or level is intended to be ten to twelve weeks, with weekly online classes that will be live-streamed and recorded for study and review. They will be taught by
Hudur Institute's lead instructor, Ustadh Dr. Hasan Awan.
Sincerely,
–Hudur Team
